The Role of the Internal Auditor – Guardian of Compliance in Quality Control

The internal auditor in civil aviation security quality control plays a key role in implementing and monitoring the internal quality control activities carried out by entities involved in civil aviation security.

According to §18 of the Regulation, the main responsibilities of the internal auditor include:

  • Preparing the documentation necessary to conduct internal controls.
  • Conducting internal audits, inspections, and tests in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Reporting significant non-conformities to an authorized representative of the entity.
  • Preparing post-control documentation and corrective action recommendations.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of control results.

Internal auditors operate independently of security managers or security service supervisors. Observers—individuals gaining experience in aviation security—may participate in the control process but always under the direct supervision of the internal auditor.

Their work aims not only to assess compliance with applicable regulations, but also to enhance the security system by identifying areas for improvement and preventing potential threats.

Internal auditors, after meeting the required criteria, completing specialized training, and passing the certification exam at the Civil Aviation Authority, are approved by the President of the Authority and gain the authority to conduct internal quality control activities in civil aviation security.
